Each school year kicks off with one of the largest philanthropic events on campus - Derby Days. This event is a week filled with fun events built to raise awareness and raise funds for our two title charities: Shinerama and the BC Children's Hospital. Derby Days relies on the help of all brothers and the members of all campus sororites to be such a whopping success each year. Keep your eyes peeled on campus for the Derby Days tanks during the first week of school and don't hesitate to ask about ways in which you can help out!
Beginning in the fall of 2011, Sigma Chi has held Blood Drives in each semester of the UBC winter session. These blood drives were launched due to two main factors: (1) the desire of all brothers to find another way to give back and (2) as a way to show support to a brother who had just lost a family member to cancer. Since then, each Sigma Chi Blood Drive has been a huge success and we look forward to another successful year of donations to the Canadian Blood Services.
Community Service Participation
The Delta Omicron chapter regularly participates in numerous other campus philanthropies and community service projects. These includes supporting the philanthropies of other Greek organizations, or donating time at BC Children's Hospital or the Soup Kitchen.
Sigma Chi is always looking for opportunities to give back. If you feel you have an initiative or an organization that could use help, feel free to contact either or Philanthropy Chair Corey Wong or our Community Service Chairman Nolan Chem to see if we can be of any assistance.
The Sigma Chi Fraternity is one of the largest collegiate fraternities in the world, with over 244 active chapters across Canada and the United States, and over 300,000 initiated members. Our mission is to develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community.
