ALPHA DELTA PI SORORITY
Social & Public Health, Arts, Year 3
When I transferred to UBC, a friend of mine introduced me to a bunch of people on campus and brought me to a few summer parties at the house. When fall came, I ended up befriending more sigs everywhere I went. I’m not sure if it’s because I was drawn to the ones I already knew, or if it’s because their involvement in a baffling amount of other organizations on campus made them pretty hard to miss. Either way, I couldn’t feel more fortunate that they’ve become some of my closest friends.
How do I choose just one? These guys are some the the most well-rounded, hard-working, and genuinely kind people I’ve ever met. Not only do they set the bar high for themselves, but they have such a great ability to inspire achievement in others. Beyond that, they’re so much fun – I’m always excited to spend time with any of them!
They’ve given me a community that makes a campus of 60 000 people feel small.
When I don’t have my nose in a nutrition book, I’m usually in the studio – I’m a member of the Thunderbird Dance Team, and have the privilege of serving as president this year. Otherwise, I enjoy travelling, skiing, playing guitar, cooking, kayaking, hiking, and above all – just being around people!
Honestly just be yourself, come in with an open mind, and get to know the guys as well as you can. The more events you come to, the easier it is for both you and the brothers to get a feel for whether or not it’s the right fit. I promise you, these guys are worth your time, and I genuinely hope that you all get the opportunity to see this organization in the same amazing light that I do!
Delta Omicron prides itself on its diversity, with brothers possessing different temperaments, talents, and convictions and hailing from all parts of the globe. With brothers representing various faculties ranging from Commerce, to the Sciences, to Arts and more, we believe that our differences - when united by sharing a common belief in an ideal, keeps our chapter strong. Our brothers are from both large cities and small suburbs across Canada and the United States, including over 10 countries outside of North America:
Corner Brook, NL
San Diego, CA
Minneapolis/St Paul, MN
The Delta Omicron chapter prides itself on its dedication to academics, leadership, community service, and philanthropy. We believe that a group of ambitious and diverse young men can make a world of difference, be it on campus or across the world. Further, we believe that the academic experience is fundamental to a young man's time at university, and academic success and personal growth should be consistently encouraged and persistently developed.
Sigma Chi professes three principles continuously: Friendship, Justice, and Learning, and the Delta Omicron chapter at UBC holds these three principles close as we navigate our way through our university lives and beyond. Please see the rest of the pages in this section to see the sort of work the Delta Omicron chapter is consistently completing.
