HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH SIGMA CHI?

Laura Seyler

Sigma Chi Delta Omicron Chapter Sweetheart 2023

When I first came to UBC I was initially introduced to Sigma Chi through friends in my sorority who all spoke so highly of everyone within the chapter. I soon became friends with so many of the boys throughout the years and even met my incredible boyfriend through this organization. I am so thankful to have been introduced to such a special group of men within my university experience and I can honestly say it wouldn’t be the same without all the boys in Sigma Chi.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT SIGMA CHI?

I think for me the most special part about Sigma Chi is watching everyone grow into such amazing people throughout their university experience. I could go on and on about all the awesome things the men in this chapter are doing. Everyone is so well-rounded and truthfully so inspiring to me. Above all, the men in this chapter have gone above and beyond in making not just myself but so many others welcomed, and cared for. I am so grateful for the love and friendships I have made within this chapter and the boys have given me a community that makes such a large campus feel like home.

INTERESTS:

As a combined major in sciences I have a passion for research! I am currently working in pediatric oncology research at BC childrens hospital research institute and working towards finding a cure for children with leukemia recovering from stem cell transplants. I am also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and serve as the Vice-president of external affairs. Otherwise, in my spare time I enjoy spending and chance I get with my friends and of course the guys in Sigma Chi!

ANY ADVICE FOR those INTERESTED IN RUSHING?

As previously VP recruitment for my own sorority the best advice I can give anyone thinking about rushing is to enjoy the experience. There is nothing obligating you to join anywhere but you would be so surprised by the the people you get to meet along the way and the connections you can make through greek life. Get to meet the guys as well as you can and get a feel for if it is something you see yourself being a part of. I promise you that every Sigma Chi is well worth meeting, and I can only hope that everyone gets the opportunity to see this organization in the same amazing light that I do.

Leadership and Academics

The Delta Omicron chapter prides itself on its dedication to academics, leadership, community service, and philanthropy. We believe that a group of ambitious and diverse young men can make a world of difference, be it on campus or across the world. Further, we believe that the academic experience is fundamental to a young man's time at university, and academic success and personal growth should be consistently encouraged and persistently developed.

Sigma Chi professes three principles continuously: Friendship, Justice, and Learning, and the Delta Omicron chapter at UBC holds these three principles close as we navigate our way through our university lives and beyond. Please see the rest of the pages in this section to see the sort of work the Delta Omicron chapter is consistently completing.
