Sigma Chi Parents

Letter from our 64th International President

Dear Parents,

Your house is quieter now with your son at college. Although you are sorry to see him go, it is where you hoped he would be one day. Yet, his leaving home is a critical test of his maturity and character.

Will he make friends with “good” kids? Will he do well in classes? Will he drink and party or spend his time with those who do? Will he ignore your values? Will he use his college experience to prepare for a satisfying, responsible and happy life and/or career? We know your concerns. We’d like you to know that he can have a home away from home at Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Sigma Chi has chapters on 223 campuses in the United States and Canada. While your house is quiet now, our chapter houses are noisy and hectic, as our nearly 15,000 college undergraduate members begin their school year. They aren’t facing the challenge of college and the transition to adult life alone. They are living and learning with the sons of other families who are facing the same opportunities, choices and decisions.

Together, Sigma Chi brother share experiences, learn to tolerate differences, experience the power of unity, strengthen their values, learn responsible personal conduct, enjoy success, and develop their leadership skills – all the while, making lifelong friends and lasting memories.

Sigma Chi ParentsOur fraternal ideals assist brothers to become men of character, caring husbands, compassionate fathers and community leaders.

That’s what the Sigma Chi family of nearly 250,000 living fraternity brothers is dedicated to doing. It was what the Fraternity’s seven founders envisioned more than 150 years ago and what we are attempting to do every day – producing a family of exceptional brothers, bound not by blood, but by a set of high ideals and principles.

Sincerely,

Keith Krach,
64th International President of Sigma Chi

What do current parents think?

My husband and I were a bit worried when Christopher joined Sigma Chi; however it has proven to be one of the best decisions of his life. Not only has the fraternity has made the large community at UBC much smaller, it has given Christopher a network of friends and peers.

Sigma Chi has presented Christopher with so many amazing opportunities at a young age, from leadership training workshops to career and academic advancements, which have made him the man he is today. My husband and I are very proud of Christopher and are pleased that he has embraced the fraternity while continuing with his pre-med studies.

Our favourite thing about Sigma Chi is its well-roundedness. Unlike traditional fraternities focusing largely on the “party” aspect, Sigma Chi advances in everything from academics, to philanthropy and charity, to sports, brotherhood, leadership, and most importantly to us, to its morals, values, and ethics.

In the past few years, Christopher has taken on numerous larger positions with in the fraternity and has attended over $20,000 worth of leadership workshops (all paid for by the fraternity) which has taught him so many important things about himself. Not only has his grades drastically improved, but he is happier then I have ever seen him and is loving his time at university. Young adults his age are fortunate to having something as amazing as Sigma Chi in their lives.

Thank you so much Sigma Chi for helping Christopher develop and grow.
