Brothers Giving Back

By Oliver Bozek on October 29, 2010

The Brothers of Delta Omicron chapter of Sigma Chi are proud to announce our winning of Alpha Delta Pi's canned food drive and bake sale. We came together as a chapter, piled our money together and bought hundreds of non-perishable goods with which to provide to those who aren't as fortunate as we are. We also bought loads of delicious pastries, the proceeds of which were donated to a worth cause.

After a very successful Fall Rush, Delta Omicron is proud to welcome 34 new pledges to our chapter of Sigma Chi. These young men have proven themselves to be of the highest caliber of high-minded men and gentlemen. We hope the best for these men throughout their pledgeship and their time in Sigma Chi. We offer them our congratulations and continuing support. We will strive our hardest to ensure their time spent in Sigma Chi will be as cherished and uplifting as it can be. To you future brothers, welcome. We would also like to congratulate our Rush Chair, Drew Gamble for all of his hard work and dedication to rush.

Sigs & Sports

By Oliver Bozek on September 25, 2010

In the past two weeks brothers of Sigma Chi at UBC have participated in and attended a number sporting events. On September 18th the brothers of Sigma Chi attended the Thunderbirds Homecoming Game where we cheered on our T-Birds. The game wasn't exactly in our favor, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. On the following Tuesday, the active members of Sigma Chi challenged our alumni to a hockey game. This game had a huge turn out, and was quite the spectacle. The alumni edged out the actives with a final score of 6 – 4. Overall both the spectators and the players had a great time.

Derby's Night Out

By on September 20, 2010 | Edit thist post!

September 13th was host to a private concert for the brothers of Sigma Chi and supporters of our Derby Days fundraiser, as musician Anami Vice performed live in support of our philanthropic efforts. The event was held in the Pop Opera club in downtown Vancouver with all proceeds going to the BC Children’s Hospital. The show was a huge success and Delta Omicron would like to give a huge shout out to Anami Vice for his support.

Pig Roast

Pig on spit

On August 29th the brothers of Sigma Chi held our second annual pig roast. The pork was graciously procured, seasoned and roasted by our brotherhood chair, Trevor Bath with the help of Shane Bush, Drew Gamble, Eric Wallace-Deering and Justin Dirk. Due to the previous success of this event, it has now become a Delta Omicron tradition and serves to kick off the new school year and our social calendar. The combination of mouth watering pork and multitudes of returning Greeks made the event a great success.

Delta Omicron Reps BLTW

By Justin Dirk on August 4, 2010

Canadian Sigs Our top 5 executive for 2010/2011, Shane Bush, Graham Coombe, Justin Dirk, Raja Woodwall, and Drew Gamble, along with emerging leaders, Oliver Bozek and Jordan Curteanu, hit up the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill to attend the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop. Balfour Leadership Training Workshop (BLTW) is just one of many Leadership Opportunities available to Sigma Chis. Here, brothers from all over Canada and the United States get together in the largest Greek Letter organization run leadership workshop. This year, there was excess of 1900 brothers, a new record!
Lotsa Sigs At BLTW, brothers break into position related groups where alumni facilitate discussions on pertinent issues and ideas that are fraternity wide. Guests speakers from all over the globe come to BLTW in order to share their advice and knowledge on all kinds of leadership topics. We break into smaller groups with more facilitators for more personal and chapter related issues. This helps us get to know our brothers from all over our two great countries. After our long days are done we all relax by hitting the local bars with 1900+ brothers, where we bro out in the biggest brodeo the Greek system has to offer.

After a hard five days of relentless work (and some play), those of us who were lucky enough to get another day off decided to take a detour through Vegas to blow off some steam. To our surprise, two of our brothers decided to fly down and participate in our shenanigans. This little surprise made our stay all the better. We spent our night at the Pure nightclub, with bottle service and had a wicked time. The following day we soaked up the sun at the pools until it was time to fly home to Canada, and back to the real world.

A Star in the Making

By Damian McClarty on July 26, 2010

Aspiring actor, performer and now director, Delta Omicron’s own Jameson Parker recently wrote and directed a music video for the song “Call and Response” by Anami Vice. This is simply the latest of many impressive pieces of work from Jameson. Delta Omicron is proud to have this incredible sig as one of our own; we know he’ll go far. So let’s cheer for him, all of us hands to ceiling, Eh! Oh!

The Sigma Chi Academy - $4,200.00 Raised for Haiti Relief

By Justin Dirk on March 26, 2010

When there is trouble in the world, the men of Sigma Chi step up.  A social event originally meant for profit, was selflessly turned into a very successful philanthropic endeavor to aid the devastated Haiti people after an intense earthquake shattered their world.

On January 29th,  over 250 people showed up to the Pit Pub, decked out in school uniforms, varsity gear and everything in between, to show their support.  Dj'ed by our own Sam Kintu of Crook's and Gun's, it was the most bumpin' place that Friday night, with a hoppin d-floor, and plenty of good times to go around.  At the end of it, one could feel proud that they contributed to a good cause, while partying with the best men on campus. After their donation was doubled by the Canadian Government, the Delta Omicron Sigma Chis raised $4,200.00 for the Canadian Red Cross through ticket sales and donations from families. Thanks to all who came out and supported!

Sweetheart Ball 2010 !!!

By Leo Abramoff on March 1, 2010

This year’s Sweetheart took place at the beautiful Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in Downtown Vancouver, January 23rd, 2010. There were over 150 guests in attendance, we started off the evening by announcing chapter awards during dinner, Sweetheart nominations, slideshow, and finally the crowning of our newest sweetheart Elizabeth Shaw, of Kappa Alpha Theta. Everyone looked sharp and maintained their composures throughout the night, there was a lot of excitement and tears making it a memorable event. Congratulations to John Watson for being recognized as a Semi-Century Sig, award recipients, Sweetheart nominees, and most of all, congratulations Liz! We would like to thank all the alumni and sweethearts for sharing this experience with us. This event was just another example of what makes Sigma Chi such a magnificent organization surrounded and composed by people of good character and admirable achievements.
