Pledge Fundraiser

By Oliver Bozek on December 6, 2010

Auctioning off valuable items has always been a staple of Derby Days, our signature philanthropy. This year however our pledges decided to auction off their pledge brothers and our active members. The beautiful girls from our lovely UBC Sororities bid on both actives and pledges. As the bids grew higher a wheel was selected and an arrow spun to determine what task the auctioned off member would preform. The fun idea allowed us all to gave a blast!

Pledge Philanthropy

By Oliver Bozek on December 5, 2010

Every year our pledge class throws a philanthropic event. Generally the pledges will host a food drive or hand out food to the less fortunate. This year our pledge class decided to mix things up and sponsored a young Tanzanian child. Our Tanzanian child, Losotu Adam Ngenyiki, enjoys drawing and is in Kindergarten. His family's livelihood is dependent on the seasonal rains. We sponsor him to lessen the burden on his family and help them become self sufficient. We wish him the best as we proceed in his sponsorship!

Road Trip

By Oliver Bozek on November 18, 2010

The brothers of the Delta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Chi love to travel and visit our brothers in different chapters. This love of visiting other chapters has evolved into a fantastic tradition. For dozens of years, we have organized a roadtrip down to other chapters of Sigma Chi down in the United States. This year we went on our roadtrip over the long memorial day weekend. We organized 29 guys into going down for this trip. We all hopped in our cars and drove down to Oregon to visit our brothers in Oregon. The brothers at Willamette (ΔΖ), University of Oregon (ΒI) and Oregon State University (Bπ) Chapters were fantastic hosts. They brought us into their chapter house and showed us a fantastic time and we appreciate their hospitality!

On the topic of visiting other Sigma Chi Chapters, we also look forwards to tripping down again for our annual province meeting which will be held at Willamette in second semester.

Halloween for Hunger

By Oliver Bozek on November 18, 2010

On October 31st the Brothers of Sigma Chi teamed up with our Derby Days Winners, the Sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma to participate in Halloween for Hunger. This North American event is where you go trick or treating, yet instead of receiving candy, the trick or treaters ask for non-perishable foods. These collected foods are then donated them to a food bank. Our team of Sigs and Kappas raked in over 300 non-perishable items to fill the coffers of our local food bank. Events like this show us how much little effort it takes to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Derby Days!!!

By Oliver Bozek on November 18, 2010

Sigma Chi's annual signature philanthropy Derby Days, held at the beginning of the school, was a great success. Events like beach volleyball, Pic-a-Sig, Penny Wars and our Endless Summer Bar Party were heavily attended and thoroughly enjoyed. We raised thousands of dollars for the Vancouver Children's Hospital while having a fantastic time doing so. This year the winners of Derby Days, and the recipient of Sigma Chi's annual Christmas Dinner, are the lovely ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma! The brothers at Sigma Chi take philanthropy very seriously as we empathize with those who are less fortunate than we are and are willing to lens a helping hand.

Brothers Giving Back

By Oliver Bozek on October 29, 2010

The Brothers of Delta Omicron chapter of Sigma Chi are proud to announce our winning of Alpha Delta Pi's canned food drive and bake sale. We came together as a chapter, piled our money together and bought hundreds of non-perishable goods with which to provide to those who aren't as fortunate as we are. We also bought loads of delicious pastries, the proceeds of which were donated to a worth cause.

After a very successful Fall Rush, Delta Omicron is proud to welcome 34 new pledges to our chapter of Sigma Chi. These young men have proven themselves to be of the highest caliber of high-minded men and gentlemen. We hope the best for these men throughout their pledgeship and their time in Sigma Chi. We offer them our congratulations and continuing support. We will strive our hardest to ensure their time spent in Sigma Chi will be as cherished and uplifting as it can be. To you future brothers, welcome. We would also like to congratulate our Rush Chair, Drew Gamble for all of his hard work and dedication to rush.

Sigs & Sports

By Oliver Bozek on September 25, 2010

In the past two weeks brothers of Sigma Chi at UBC have participated in and attended a number sporting events. On September 18th the brothers of Sigma Chi attended the Thunderbirds Homecoming Game where we cheered on our T-Birds. The game wasn't exactly in our favor, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. On the following Tuesday, the active members of Sigma Chi challenged our alumni to a hockey game. This game had a huge turn out, and was quite the spectacle. The alumni edged out the actives with a final score of 6 – 4. Overall both the spectators and the players had a great time.

Derby's Night Out

By on September 20, 2010 | Edit thist post!

September 13th was host to a private concert for the brothers of Sigma Chi and supporters of our Derby Days fundraiser, as musician Anami Vice performed live in support of our philanthropic efforts. The event was held in the Pop Opera club in downtown Vancouver with all proceeds going to the BC Children’s Hospital. The show was a huge success and Delta Omicron would like to give a huge shout out to Anami Vice for his support.

Pig Roast

Pig on spit

On August 29th the brothers of Sigma Chi held our second annual pig roast. The pork was graciously procured, seasoned and roasted by our brotherhood chair, Trevor Bath with the help of Shane Bush, Drew Gamble, Eric Wallace-Deering and Justin Dirk. Due to the previous success of this event, it has now become a Delta Omicron tradition and serves to kick off the new school year and our social calendar. The combination of mouth watering pork and multitudes of returning Greeks made the event a great success.
